Streaky Bay

Saturday 5 September  2015
A beautiful sunrise this morning and clear blue skies. We had an early start and headed down the Stuart Highway  towards Port Augusta. It has been a very scenic drive with ranges in the distance and a panoramic view of the country from the high spots on the road. It is the first time either of us has been down this stretch of the highway so it is nice to cover new territory. There are a great number of sheep on the stations and we saw 2 little black lambs with their mother. Once these would have been culled from the flock as the wool buyers wouldn't buy the black wool mixed with the white wool. There were not as many trucks on the road as yesterday but the caravanners were on the move. All of the grey nomads were heading off early so they could get to the next campsite early enough to get the best spot. Don't mess with the senior citizens. Port Augusta was merely a fuel stop and then we pressed on westwards. Fuelled up again at Kimba where there is a statue of a big pink and grey galah and stopped at Poochera where we turned off the Eyre Highway towards Streaky Bay. We said our goodbyes to Hugh who is continuing on to Ceduna in his Landrover. There are now just Gary in his Landrover and us travelling on together. At present we are sitting by the water's edge at Streaky Bay taking in the view of the beach.  It has been a long time since we have seen the ocean and walked along the beach  (still yet to do the walk but I am sure it will happen).   The caravan park is situated right on the edge of the water so it is prime real estate. We were lucky to get a place as the football grand final is on in town and the town is buzzing. Our advice was that if you wanted to buy fish and chips order early as there is only one fish and chip shop in town. Likewise with the pub.  We took on board the advice given and ate around 4.45pm. Thanks Veronica they were delicious. What is it with us and booze buses? The local cops are breathalysing everyone leaving the footy on the road behind our truck.  It should boost their quotas!!
By the way wish you were here!!!!!
