Algebuckina Bridge

Wednesday 2 September 20 15
The tarp was battered by strong winds during the night. In the morning we headed off to Algebuckina Bridge - one of the bridge crossings built for the Ghan. The road was much better and it was a more scenic drive. We crisscrossed the old railway many times and saw the ruins of the old fetlers cottages. It is a shame that they are just disappearing into the ground.

We had lunch at the Oodnadatta Hotel which is painted bright pink and is quite renowned Australia wide. A car towing a caravan pulled in while we were there and the caravan had obviously rolled over. The roof of the van was all smashed and had been strapped down. It was a sorry end to their holiday.  After a drive around the town and a visit to the historic railway station we began our journey on the Oodnadatta track. When we arrived at the bridge it was very windy so we moved to a more protected area along the creek. Bob had promised us a feed of fish that he had brought from home so that night we gathered around Sam and Lorraine's camper while Bob did the cooking. The ladies provided salads and Steve and Marleene cooked some chips. It was a great feed at Bob's Diner in central Australia.
